New Street Works Qualifications Regulations come into force on 10th April 2010. These regulations introduce the requirement that supervisors and operatives must be reassessed every five years to confirm that they are still competent before they can re-register and continue to carry out street works.

From 6th April 2010 an operative or supervisor can re-register with SWQR for another five years as long as the application to re-register is received by the SWQR within a window of six months before and six months after expiry of the earlier registration.

Currently there is no requirement to be reassessed for renewal of your Streetworks card.

The industry belief is that operatives and supervisors should maintain their level of skill and understanding since they registered or re-registered, as a result, from the 6th April 2011 all operatives and supervisors wishing to re-register will be required to have successfully completed reassessment for the units of competence they already hold prior to re-registration.

The form that this reassessment will take is a knowledge based, multiple choice test. A reassessment window has been set at six months before and six months after expiry of your current card.
