Following the recent sad news reports from South Wales, there is no better time to check that you are complying with The control of legionella bacteria in water systems - Approved Code of Practice and guidance L8 published by the HSE.

There has been 22 people linked to the outbreak of legionnaires disease in the South Wales Valleys in the last week.

Public Health Wales said it was working with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and environmental health officers from eight councils to investigate the cause. Sites in Merthyr Tydfil, the Rhymney and Cynon Valleys have been closed but none have been confirmed as the source. Numerous other sites have been investigated by the HSE in a bid to locate the source.

People become infected when they inhale legionella bacteria which have been released into the air in aerosolised form from a contaminated source.

It is vitally important that managers of buildings understand the risk posed by water systems and the necessary steps required to ensure these are controlled.

Our legionella courses provide delegates with the skills and knowledge to carry out risk assessments and take the necessary steps to ensure that their water systems pose no risk of legionella.
