To provide participants with the technical and practical information and knowledge for them to safely disinfect a water systems in accordance with the Approved Code of Practice and Guidance Document (L8) - Legionnaires' Disease. The control of Legionella Bacteria in water systems and BS EN 806. Specification for the design, installation, testing and maintenance of services supplying water for domestic use within buildings and their curtilages.

Objectives

By the end of the course learners will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of legal and moral framework and advice
  • Describe methods of safe storage, handling and use of chlorine and silver hydrogen peroxide chemicals
  • Describe biocidal Treatment Methods
  • Know how to calculate system capacities and chemical quantities
  • Understand chemical dose, pH factor, and residual measurement
  • List De-chlorination methods
  • Describe and work to disinfection procedures
  • Carry out water sampling
