Objectives
By the end of this course the participants will be able to:
- Identify suitable points from which to take water samples
- Select suitable sampling equipment and vessels appropriate to the respective samples
- Prepare selected sampling point for taking samples
- Disinfect bacteriological sampling points on mains and at taps
- Recognise potential sources of contamination of the sample
- Carry out chlorine residual measurements on sampling points
- Record necessary details of sampling following Scottish Waters systems
- Store and transport samples in accordance with procedures
- Carry out all operations safely and hygienically
Method
The course will consist of a mixture of classroom based tuition and practical exercises to cover:
- Chlorine residual measurement
- Taking of samples
- Completion of associated Scottish Water documentation
