This training course is aimed at staff taking water samples or directly responsible for those who do as part of Scottish Water’s DOMS procedures.

Objectives

By the end of this course the participants will be able to:

  • Identify suitable points from which to take water samples
  • Select suitable sampling equipment and vessels appropriate to the respective samples
  • Prepare selected sampling point for taking samples
  • Disinfect bacteriological sampling points on mains and at taps
  • Recognise potential sources of contamination of the sample
  • Carry out chlorine residual measurements on sampling points
  • Record necessary details of sampling following Scottish Water’s systems
  • Store and transport samples in accordance with procedures
  • Carry out all operations safely and hygienically
Method

The course will consist of a mixture of classroom based tuition and practical exercises to cover:

  • Chlorine residual measurement
  • Taking of samples
  • Completion of associated Scottish Water documentation
