This course is designed to meet the immediate needs of new entrants to the water industry in the early days of their new career, whatever their role. It aims to provide essential information that will ensure that they have a good understanding of the industry, what the key drivers are and how it goes about its business.

There is also an opportunity to couple this course with our water industry health and safety induction which has also been designed to meet the needs of early entrants to the industry. This course also has the flexibility to be tailored to meet the needs of a single company or could be delivered to learners from a variety water companies. It can also be structured around visits to operational sites such as water and waste water treatment works.

Objectives

By the end of this course the participants will be able to:

  • Describe the natural and man-made water cycles
  • Explain the operational functions of water and water and sewerage companies
  • Recognise the geographical coverage of the UK water industry and how their company fits in to it
  • List the key drivers of the industry and explain how their needs impact on it
  • Recognise the key components of water industry infrastructure and describe in layman's terms how they function
Method

This course can be classroom based and delivered using a mixture of trainer presentation, group and individual exercises. It can also be structured around visits to operational sites.
