This course gives the learners the skills and knowledge to carry out thrust-boring in order to lay water service pipes.

Objectives

By the end of this training course the participants will be able to:

  • Identify situations where use of thrust-boring is appropriate
  • Select suitable thrust-boring equipment and carry out pre-use checks
  • Select suitable compressor and carry out pre-use checks
  • Check route to be thrust-bored for underground utilities and other hazards
  • Carry out thrust-boring to within +/- 300mm of target
  • Carry out lubrication and simple maintenance to ensure ongoing operation of equipment
  • Carry out activities safely and in compliance with good water supply hygiene practices
Method

The course will consist of a mixture of classroom based tuition field based practical exercises.

Pre Course Requirements

Learners should have the ability to use basic hand tools. They should come equipped with PPE including foot, head, eye and ear protection plus gloves and overalls. It would also be advisable to be equipped with foul weather clothing as a precaution.
