This course gives the water industry technician the skills and knowledge required to carry out repairs and alterations to a range of water services of differing materials.

Objectives

By the end of this course the participants will be able to:

  • Work with galvanized iron, lead, polyethylene, copper and polythene pipe materials
  • Identify and select appropriate pipes for the task in hand by material and size
  • Select, carry out and use tools and equipment appropriate to the various materials and tasks in hand
  • Cut the specified pipe materials using appropriate tools
  • Select appropriate joints and jointing methods for the specified pipes
  • Prepare trenches for installation and repair activities
  • Carry out activities in compliance with good water supply hygiene practices
Method

The course will consist of a mixture of classroom based tuition and workshop based practical exercises.

Pre Course Requirements

Learners should come equipped with PPE including foot, head, eye and ear protection plus gloves and overalls.
