This course gives the learners the skills and knowledge to select, cut, join and lay a range of water mains of differing materials.

Objectives

By the end of this course the participants will be able to:

  • Work with ductile iron, PVC, MDPE and HHPE pipe materials
  • Identify and select appropriate pipes for the task in hand by material and size
  • Cut the specified pipe materials using appropriate tools
  • Select appropriate joints and jointing methods for the specified pipes
  • Prepare a trench for main laying activities
  • Explain the risks associated with working in trenches and describe methods of controlling those risks
  • Carry out activities in compliance with good water supply hygiene practices
Method

The course will consist of a mixture of classroom based tuition workshop based practical exercises.

Pre Course Requirements

Learners should have the ability to use basic hand tools. They should come equipped with PPE including foot, head, eye and ear protection plus gloves and overalls.
