This training course provides the skills and knowledge required for water industry technicians to modify and repair water mains, to install new and replacement fittings and connections.

Objectives

By the end of this course the participants will be able to:

  • Work with cast and ductile iron, PVC, MDPE and HPPE pipe materials
  • Identify and select appropriate pipes and fittings for the task in hand by material and size
  • Select appropriate cutting, associated tooling and equipment suitable for each pipe material
  • Cut the specified pipe materials using appropriate tools
  • Select appropriate joints and jointing methods for the specified pipes
  • Prepare excavations for respective activities
  • Explain the risks associated with working in trenches and describe methods of controlling those risks
  • Carry out activities in compliance with good water supply hygiene practices
Method

The course consists of a mixture of classroom based tuition and workshop based practical exercises.

Pre Course Requirements

Learners should attend equipped with appropriate PPE including head, foot, eye and ear protection plus gloves and overalls.
