This course is aimed at water industry technicians and is designed to give them the necessary skills and knowledge to operate sluice valves on water networks to carry out mains shut downs and other activities.

Objectives

By the end of this course the participants will be able to:

  • Recognise different types of sluice valves
  • Assess risks associated with valve operations
  • Determine the direction of closure sluice valves
  • Identify appropriate valves to carry out mains shut downs
  • Ensure mains can be flushed appropriately by ensuring availability of hydrants within shut down zone
  • Determine suitable order of valve operations to minimise risk of effecting water quality
  • Carry out activities safely and hygienically
Method

The course will consist of a mixture of classroom based tuition and practical exercises.

Pre Course Requirements

Learners should attend with their own personal protective equipment.
