A one day training course to provide the skills and knowledge required to carry out the swabbing of water mains.

Objectives

By the end of the course the participants will be able to:

  • Explain circumstances where swabbing is the appropriate cleansing technique
  • Select suitable materials and equipment for foam swabbing of water mains
  • Identify suitable insertion and retrieval points along the section to be cleansed
  • Isolate the section of main requiring cleansing by swabbing
  • Swab the main using current methods
  • Dispose of discharged water and materials according to current procedures
  • Describe the potential effects of operations on customers
  • Restore the system to normal operating conditions
  • Check the aesthetic quality of the water following successful swabbing and flushing
  • Check chlorine residuals following successful swabbing and flushing
  • Carry out all operations safely and hygienically
Method

The course will consist of a mixture of classroom based tuition and practical exercises.

Pre Course Requirements

Attendees should bring with them waterproof clothing, safety footwear, suitable eye protection, and gloves for handling of Chlorine solutions.
