This course is designed for learners, with experience in valve operations, to operate an air scour machine to clean a water distribution main.

Objectives

By the end of this course the participants will be able to:

  • Interpret schedules and plans to carry out air scouring
  • Identify the part of the water mains network requiring air scour
  • Select appropriate valves and hydrants to use for air scour activities
  • Carry out pre use and safety checks on the air scour equipment
  • Clean water mains by air scouring
  • Explain the operational and safety risks associated with air scouring and the necessary control measures
Method

The course will consist of a mixture of classroom based tuition and practical exercises.

Pre Course Requirements

Learners should attend with PPE including foot, eye and hear protects plus overalls and gloves. The practical activities will be undertaken outdoors therefore foul weather clothing may also be necessary.
