This course is designed to meet the immediate health and safety needs of new entrants to the water industry in the early days of their new career, whatever their role. It aims to provide the necessary knowledge to ensure that individuals can embark on their career safely. There is also an opportunity to couple this course with our water industry induction which has also been designed to meet the needs of early entrants to the industry. This course also has the flexibility to be tailored to meet the needs of a single company or could be delivered to learners from a variety water companies.

Objectives

By the end of this course the participants will be able to:

  • Explain the terms hazard and risk
  • Describe the risk assessment process
  • Describe the responsibilities placed on employees with regard to health and safety
  • Describe typical hazards and hazardous situations found in the industry
  • Recognise the health and safety boundaries in place to ensure safety in the early stages of employment
  • Describe the necessary actions required to comply with basic work place safety
Method

A classroom based course which uses a mixture of trainer presentation, facilitated group and individual activities.
