Objectives
By the end of this course the participants will be able to:
- Explain the purpose of secondary treatment including: where it fits into the overall treatment process and the implications of not achieving efficient treatment
- Discuss the microbiology of secondary treatment and its importance
- Describe the plant and equipment used to achieve efficient secondary treatment including: Fixed Film Processes, Activated Sludge, Submerged Aerated Filters and Sequencing Batch Reactors
- Illustrate the operation and maintenance requirements including monitoring, sampling and troubleshooting
- Assess secondary treatment performance

Mainly classroom based training with flipchart and practical exercises and discussion. A visit to a treatment works included
