A three day course giving an introduction to wastewater secondary treatment, covering the purpose, methods, monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting

Objectives

By the end of this course the participants will be able to:

• Explain the purpose of secondary treatment including: where it fits into the overall treatment process and the implications of not achieving efficient treatment

• Discuss the microbiology of secondary treatment and its importance

• Describe the plant and equipment used to achieve efficient secondary treatment including: Fixed Film Processes, Activated Sludge, Submerged Aerated Filters and Sequencing Batch Reactors

• Illustrate the operation and maintenance requirements including monitoring, sampling and troubleshooting

• Assess secondary treatment performance

Mainly classroom based training with flipchart and practical exercises and discussion. A visit to a treatment works included
