This is a two day course covering the following topics:

  • Process description - conventional anaerobic digesters plus pre-treatment processes
  • Reasons for digesting
  • Digester construction - the role of key plant and equipment
  • The role of the operator and manager - HACCP, operational procedures, process monitoring
  • Factors affecting the process - operational problems and restoring stability
  • Gas storage and utilisation - CHP
  • Hazards associated with digesters and control measures employed
  • Odour management
  • Commissioning and decommissioning procedures

The focus throughout the two days is on maintaining a safe working environment.

  • Describe the process including routine operations and maintenance
  • Recognise and resolve operational problems
  • Maximise and maintain methane gas production
  • Identify hazards associated with anaerobic digesters and list the relevant control measures
  • Follow commissioning and de-commissioning procedures
Method

A classroom based training course with a mixture of trainer presentation, practical exercises, site visit and end of course assessment.
